Our Top Christmas Ads This Year

Not to be a negative Nancy or anything, but 2018 has been a little disappointing on the Christmas advert scene compared to last year. Or maybe last year we were all just spoiled with too many magical adverts.

With that being said, here are our top picks:

4/ McDonald’s – Reindeer Ready

McDonald’s has returned with a traditional Christmas campaign, building on from last year’s campaign. It follows Father Christmas enjoying a mince pie at every house whilst his hungry reindeer look on, having been forgotten about. That is until the golden arches come to the rescue as Santa stocks up on carrot sticks. Overall, a sweet traditional ad.

3/ Heathrow – The Heathrow Bears Return

Mr and Mrs Bair are back in their third Heathrow Airport Christmas ad. Though this time the couple have migrated to a warmer yet less festive climate. The ad shows Doris decorating a Christmas tree when suddenly she mistakes a snake for tinsel. After video calling their family back home, they decide that Christmas in the sunshine isn’t the same; they just want to be home with their family. The tagline ‘Making it home, makes it Christmas’ sums up what Christmas is really about.

2/ John Lewis – The Boy & The Piano


The Boy & The Piano tells the story of how Sir Elton John’s life changed when he was gifted a piano for Christmas. However, the story is told backwards, starting with 71-year-old Sir Elton John sat at the piano at home and then finally ending with a young boy receiving a piano from his mother and grandmother. Portraying its message ‘Some gifts are more than just a gift’. This must be one of our favourites from John Lewis, besides from the penguins.

1/ Sainsbury’s – The Big Night

The supermarket’s festive film depicts a school nativity play. The ad has a very young cast who are all dressed up as many quirky characters, from baubles and stars to …erm a plug?

Performing a rendition of the New Radicals ‘You Get What You Give’, the children have tugged at our heart strings and is a clear favourite in the studio.
